Siemens PLM- Latest Enhancements to Parasolid Deliver Significant Productivity for High-End Applications

New Version of Siemens PLM Software’s Industry-Leading 3D Modeling Kernel Delivers Capabilities Supporting Automated Workflows and Direct Editing in High-End Applications

PLANO, Texas, April 4, 2012 - Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced the latest release of Parasolid® software, its industry-leading 3D geometric modeling component for computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering analysis (CAD/CAM/CAE) as well as architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) applications. Parasolid version 24.1 delivers a set of capabilities supporting automated workflows and direct editing in high-end applications.
“This latest release of Parasolid delivers an impressive set of enhancements that enable application developers to automate more and more highly complex workflows in order to boost end user productivity,” said Paul Sicking, Chief Technology Officer, Siemens PLM Software. “By working with the most demanding application developers and end users, the Parasolid team is able to identify barriers to greater productivity and provide ground breaking technical solutions built on the foundation of the proven modeling technology of Parasolid.”
Parasolid version 24.1 includes enhancements in a wide variety of areas with a special focus on three primary categories.
Direct Modeling – The accelerating trend towards hybrid modeling applications, which combine history-based and direct modeling techniques, offers enormous productivity gains to end users. Parasolid version 24.1 adds to an already extensive range of operations on features comprising a set of faces. Enhancements include the ability to interrogate a model to determine entities related to the one being edited, intelligent repair of complex cases that arise when moving, editing and deleting faces, repair of holes created by face deletion and improved diagnostics when an operation cannot be performed as requested. Each of these is an essential tool for application developers who need to identify and edit features without the presence of a feature history tree.
General Modeling – The Boolean operations have been enhanced to allow the subtraction and intersection of general models. There are also enhancements to trimming neutral sheets and creating neutral surfaces by offsetting. Each of these enables general models to be edited as the primary design rather than as a model derived from the boundary representation (b-rep) model. This is particularly useful in CAE and AEC providing productivity and flexibility benefits to application developers and end users.
Surface Modeling – A number of enhancements have been added to help application developers identify and remove undesirable surface characteristics at the earliest opportunity in order to optimize performance and robustness in subsequent operations. These include replacing a collection of smooth faces with a single face, simplifying the results of sweep operations and locating and repairing curve degeneracies.
In addition, Parasolid version 24.1 delivers enhancements to blending, rendering, faceting and application support. For more information about specific enhancements visit www.plm.automation.siemens.com/en_us/products/open/parasolid/v24-1.shtml.
